American-TeĀ® Self Defense

Each belt rank features self defense techniques based on combination striking or grappling situations.

Kumite

Our combination techniques, known as "Kumite" begin at Yellow Belt and finish at Blue Belt.  Green Belts are required to follow up their kumite with grappling techniques.  Brown Belts are required to finish their grappling add-on with striking.  Black Belts are required to show control of opponent on the ground.

Grappling

Our "Grappling" techniques are based on Jiu Jitsu locks and Judo takedowns or throws.   Our White Belts learn the basic "Releases" from wrist grabs and chokes.  Grappling techniques begin at Orange Belt and finish at Blue Belt.  Green Belts and higher must encorporate the grappling techniques into their combination techniques.  Brown Belts and Black Belts also learn flow drills to combine and counter techniques.
